Sharapova and Kvitova through to Wimbledon final

Sports fans with Wimbledon tickets will be heading to south-west London tomorrow (July 2nd) to see the climax of this year's ladies' singles tournament, with Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova confirmed as the two finalists.

Sharapova will be competing in her second final at the tournament, having taken the title in 2004 when she was just 17, while Kvitova has reached the last stage of a Grand Slam event for the first time.

Having made it through the first five rounds of the championship without dropping a set, Sharapova maintained her impressive form in the semi-final, overcoming Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-4, 6-3.

The Czech player spent slightly longer on court in her game against Victoria Azarenka, which required all three sets to be played before a winner was decided.

Sharapova is the clear favourite to lift the Wimbledon trophy on Centre Court tomorrow, but her 21-year-old opponent could have enough in her locker to cause an upset.

In the semi-finals of the men's singles draw, Andy Murray faces Rafael Nadal and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga plays Novak Djokovic today.
