Silverstone boss pleased with British Grand Prix ticket sales
The head of Silverstone has hailed last weekends Formula One British Grand Prix as a success after 305,000 motor racing fans bought tickets for the event.
Silverstone managing director Richard Phillips said this year's race was one of the best ever British Grands Prix, especially given the recent uncertainty of Silverstone's future as a Formula One venue.
In 2009, head of F1 Bernie Ecclestone said that the British Grand Prix would be moved to Donnington Park due to disagreements with Silverstone's owners the British Racing Drivers' Club.
However, after it emerged Donnington was suffering from economic problems, a new 17-year contract to host the event at Silverstone was agreed.
This weekend's race enjoyed a crowd of 115,000 and record-equalling attendances of 85,000 and 105,000 for the practice sessions on Friday and qualifying on Saturday respectively.
"This time last year we didn't have a Formula 1 contract; 12 months on and we've just enjoyed a fantastic British Grand Prix and a great race on the new circuit layout," said Mr Phillips.
Attention now turns to Hockenheim, where the German Grand Prix will be held on Sunday, July 25th.
