Sting: I won't get involved in Occupy Wall Street
A Sting concert in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York is unlikely, as the singer has ruled out attending Occupy events.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said that while he is "intrigued" by the organisation's aim of highlighting corporate greed, he does not think he should get involved.
"I don't think celebrities should necessarily go to Occupy events. They're usually there to aggrandise themselves, anyway," he remarked, adding: "I will support it from a distance."
The New York movement has spread across the world and, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, Kanye West, Russell Simmons and Tom Morello are among the big names who have appeared in the Big Apple to back the initiative, which got underway in September.
Fans of the former Police frontman will be able to see him in person on the upcoming Sting tour, which gets underway in Gateshead on February 5th next year.
This will be followed by shows in Manchester and Glasgow, before the tour concludes with three nights at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo on March 19th to 21st.
