Sting opens Poland's first Euro 2012 stadium
A concert featuring Sting has been held to mark the opening of the first football stadium in Poland to be ready for Euro 2012, which it hosts with Ukraine.
Sting appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra before an audience of some 30,000 people, as part of a tour promoting his new album Symphonicity - an album of past hits rearranged and backed by the orchestra.
The concert was held at the Poznan stadium, central Poland, a 43,000-seat stadium and the first of four Poland will be using to host the tournament.
Three more stadiums are to open by July 2011 - they will be in the Baltic seaport of Gdansk, the capital Warsaw and the south-western city of Wrocla.
"On 630 days before the inauguration of the tournament, we have a ready venue, which must be tested and perfected," Marcin Herra, head of the Pl.2012 company in charge of readying Poland for the games, told press agency DPA.
Sting plays a number of UK shows as part of his current world tour, starting at the Royal Albert Hall on October 1st.
