Wales lose Jenkins for first Six Nations clash

Gethin Jenkins will miss Wales' game with England

Wales have suffered yet another blow to their Six Nations campaign with the news that prop Gethin Jenkins will miss the opening match with England.

Jenkins, who failed a fitness test on a calf-muscle problem, joins his fellow front-row forward Mathew Rees on the sidelines who was ruled-out earlier this week with groin injury.

Ospreys forward Paul James will take Jenkins' place in the starting line up with Saracens prop Rhys Gill replacing James on the bench.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland said: "Obviously, it is not ideal for us to lose Gethin at this stage, and we wish him a speedy recovery. Paul James has been one of the form props in the Welsh regions so far this season, and we are confident he will be a more than able deputy for Gethin."

The RBS Six Nations kicks off this weekend with Wales taking on England at Twickenham on February 6th, while Ireland play underdogs Italy at Croke Park.
