Wilkinson out of England's autumn internationals squad

Jonny Wilkinson has been ruled out of the autumn internationals

England's Jonny Wilkinson will miss this year's autumn internationals after being ruled out of action for four weeks with a shoulder injury.

The fly half suffered the injury while playing for Toulon last weekend and, following a scan on Tuesday (October 26th) it has been decided that he will need a least a month of treatment before he is able to play again.

His place in Martin Johnson's squad has been handed to Sale Sharks No10 Charlie Hodgson.

England team manager Johnson said: "As I said on Wednesday Jonny was being assessed day-by-day and we would have a better idea of where he was in terms of the injury by the end of this week.

"It's clear that Jonny will need a period of rehab of around four weeks and this will be carried out in conjunction with Toulon."

England's first game of the autumn internationals comes against New Zealand at Twickenham on November 6th.
