Wimbledon welcomes record 'manic Monday' crowd
Wimbledon tickets appear to be in high demand, with the organisers of the tournament announcing that a record crowd came to see the stars of the tennis world in action yesterday (June 27th).
Overall attendance on 'manic Monday' was 44,494, with the biggest courts at SW19 all full to capacity.
Announcing the achievement on the championship's official blog, organisers said that this year's event is "really capturing the imagination of the public".
There were some famous faces among the spectators yesterday, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge turning up to see Andy Murray beat Richard Gasquet and the Duke of Kent, singer Elaine Paige and US Open-winning golfer Rory McIlroy also visiting.
Crowds were treated to some top-class sporting entertainment, with Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro battling it out in a tense match and both Venus and Serena Williams being knocked out by lower seeds.
Top seed and world number one Caroline Wozniacki also saw her tournament come to an end with a loss to Dominika Cibulkova.
