The Saints established in 1873 is one of the most dominant AFL clubs in the game today. The St. Kilda Saints based in St. Kilda in Melbourne was one of the foundation teams of the original VFA in 1877 and later in 1897 became one of the first teams in the VFL which was renamed the AFL in 1990. St. Kilda's only premiership success came way back in 1966 but they came agonizingly close to beating the Geelong Cats in the 2009 Grand Final. The Saints play their home games at Etihad Stadium where they are considered almost unbeatable. The Saints, led by Captain Nick Riewoldt are a serious contender for the Cup.
